Invitation for more cruises on the USS Carr.
CARR Family,
I hope this email finds you all well. Time is flying by and I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week already. We’re finally out of the shipyard and we’re busy trying to get ready for our Engineering Certification the week of 27 Nov. The crew is tired, but spirits remain high….I’m not sure how they do it, but I’m blessed to have a crew like this!
The first two weeks of December, CARR will be operating off the coast of Florida, participating in an Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercise. The crew and I are looking forward to conducting operations again rather than mundane repairs, maintenance and training. 🙂 Of course, they’re also looking forward to a nice break over the Christmas and New Years Holiday where most of the crew will have an opportunity to spend time home with family and friends.
Today I had the pleasure of showing Goldie Carr Bridges and Tim and Luz Bougher around the ship. It seems as though the Carr Family truly is spread around the country. Tim contacted me this week and we arranged a tour for them onboard this morning while CARR was moored at Naval Station Norfolk. I think they had a good time and I added Tim’s email to the Cc… block above so I can keep the entire family in a single collective email.
Although CARR’s schedule is forever changing, I wanted to let you know that I was planning two more cruises for family members and guests and figured I’d at least share the dates with you now for planning, although the dates have not been confirmed. I’d like to conduct a Tiger Cruise, an overnight embarkation, from Tuesday to Wednesday, 12-13 Jun 2007. During this cruise, family and friends will be allowed to remain onboard overnight to observe a full day at sea. Unfortunately, since I only have 5 female officers onboard, I can only have a max of 20 female guests (4:1 ratio). Since Female Berthing is limited, the overnight cruise is principally for male guests, although I can take up to 20 female guests. Min age for all guests is 8.
I’m also planning another Family and Friends Day Cruise on Friday, 29 Jun 2007. This is the same kind of cruise many of you already participated in. Underway in the early morning and return late in the afternoon on the same day. Perhaps the weather will be a little nicer this time of year and we’ll try to get a few more activities planned such as a live gun shoot of CARR’s main battery, flight quarters, etc.
Well, off to another meeting. Please keep in touch, and have a wonderful holiday season.
Warm regards,
George
