Mike:
Good to hear from you. I posted an update on the Samuel B. Roberts page about a month ago. I am currently writing the early chapters for the manuscript, which is due August 15 at St. Martin’s Press. They will publish it sometime early next year.
I have completed most of the reading and many of the interviews, but saved some to conduct near the end of my research process, including your family. In the next month or so I will be calling people with some questions about Paul’s story, mostly about what the family knew of Paul’s service at the time he was serving in 1944, how they followed news of the war at that time, whether anyone in the family has information or material that has not been previously seen/used, what they recall about learning of Paul’s death, and what that battle and Paul’s part in it mean to the family. Who do you suggest I contact for that information?
The research has gone very well. Different families have made letters, reminiscences, and photographs available, and I have had the good fortune to interview more than twenty survivors. I’m pleased with the writing so far, and I think you and others will be happy with the final product. Paul’s role in this amazing story certainly is worthy of notice.
Give my regards to all, and let me know who to call about the information.
Take care,
John
