The week-end before we were due to leave for Corpus Christi to celebrate Aunt Lucille’s 85th Birthday I received a call from Carolyn Lohn. She invited us to spend the night on the way down to break up the trip so to speak. She said she would feed us dinner when we got there and breakfast the next morning before we headed on to Corpus.
Just before we sat down to a really wonderful dinner, Carol said, “Aunt Juanita, I neglected to tell you that we sing for our supper here”. She had a record, which to the best of my memory was a real ‘record’ not a CD. It was ,of course, ‘Frankie and Johnny’ which I was supposed to sing and dance to like I did back in the days when we all came to Mama Carr’s in the summer.
I told her I would have to lip-sync the words as my family offers to pay me not to even sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to them. Anyway, we had a hearty laugh and I worked up a hearty appetite with my song and dance. I found out that my nieces have long memories but then, occasionally, so do I.
Remind me to tell you about the time they tied me in the bed.
